Mission: USS Deliverance Maiden Voyage
Location: Engineering
Timeline: Maiden Voyage

Jenny was intrigued, she was to meet the Chief of Security in Engineering, of all places. She wondered if the quirky Alula would be there; she was, after all, the officer in charge of that particular section. The young science officer had no idea about the misgiving around the Romulan cloaking device evinced by the grumpy Operations Chief, Kagg (who was as pig-like in his manners as he was in his looks) or about the fact that a 'Rommie half-breed' as he had so rudely put it, was in charge of the suspect device. To Jen it was just another house-call on brand-new ship whose teething troubles sometimes required a little scientific input to resolve.

When the door swished open and she entered Engineering, she saw a strong-looking woman whom she instinctively knew must be the Security Chief: and she stiffened a little, the way people do when they meet a policeman, suddenly wondering if they had committed some forgotten crime which they might be arrested for! She forced herself to relax a little and present a friendly but suitably formal front for the Lieutenant Commander.

"Commander Napier? I'm Jenny Goldstein, you requested a Science Officer?" she asked, wondering what this was all about.

Alula was leaning over the Master Situations Monitor when Jenny entered Main Engineering. She tapped the panel and then straightened, giving her a wide greeting smile.

“Welcome to Engineering, Jenny! Have you met our Chief of Security, Lt. Commander Mira Napier?” Alula motioned to the woman standing to her left, with whom she had just been discussing some new security measures for Engineering.

"I haven't had the pleasure." Jenny smiled, managing to suppress a sunny Hi! which would not be appropriate for a woman who was two ranks her senior and who, frankly, looked kinda serious. "I brought my tricorder" she heard herself blurt: a comment which was not only self-evident but, well, kinda lame.

Napier smiled at the two of them, "I'm sorry. I was studying the security aspects. I'm Mira and that's what you both can call me." She gave a smile and gestured to Jenny. "Jenny, could you make sure the science of this is adequate? I'd much appreciate it." She glanced to Alula, "if it's alright with the Engineer to have an extra pair of eyes." She quipped with a little smirk.

"I promise not to break anything!" Jenny smiled at Alula and started to triangulate her tricorder, though what she was looking for... who knew? She was looking for anything unexpected in the imported Romulan device but that, by definition, was an unknown quantity.

"Kagg thinks the cloaking device in itself is partially cloaked" she muttered to herself, then looked up at the other two women "He talks to me, for some reason" she explained: the Tellarite was notoriously standoff-ish and uncommunicative with other people on the ship "... I think it's since he found out I was Jewish."

Mira gave a nod, "As long as he doesn't cause any more problems, that'd be nice."

And so it came to pass.
